Now more than ever, at a time when Black America is protesting and fighting for equality, it is important that we support Black-owned coffee businesses – especially those whose mission advances the well-being of our communities. At Bold and Gritty, we believe in the importance of building something that is bigger than ourselves – so we’ve decided to publish a list of our peers that share in our mission to make the world a better place for Black and Brown people. If you like to stay caffeinated with a good cup of coffee, here is a list of black-owned coffee companies that you can purchase from right now!
COFFEE ROASTERS AND ONLINE RETAILERS:
Bold and Gritty Coffee
Description: Bold and Gritty is a Black-owned coffee-focused lifestyle brand that highlights Black coffee and Black culture. Coffee is the vehicle by which they tell amazing stories of people doing inspiring things, particularly Black men who have overcome tremendous odds to be successful in life. As a company, they are building an audience that is conscious about the conversations they have around their daily cup of coffee.

Description: An exclusively African Coffee Roaster based in Renton, Washington. Boon Boona looks to leave more added value in an equitable way to African Coffee Producers while providing a welcoming space for all in their Cafe.

Description: Black-owned Coffee Brand. “What If we loved Black people like we love black coffee.” This is the premise for Cxffeeblack – a lifestyle coffee company that focuses on reconnecting the Black community to coffee and the history of coffee.

Description: Founded by a former Nike shoe designer, Deadstock Coffee is a sneaker-themed coffee shop and roastery. Their goal is to be a hub for anyone creative or who is seeking a judgment-free, barbershop feel.

Description: Coffee, culture and Hip Hop. Dope coffee aims to show the world that premium coffee and Black culture go hand in hand. They also run Dope Coffee Music to provide talented artists with a platform to be authentically themselves and publish their work to the world.

Coffee Hip Hop and Mental Health
Description: Founded by Christopher LeMark, a Chicago Native and Hip Hop artist, CHHAMH runs a concept shop. Proceeds from coffee sales raise funds to deliver 500 bags of groceries and gifts to 500 Chicago area families on Christmas eve. The space is used to host conversations about mental health in all communities. If you are not in Chicago, consider donating to their cause.

Description: Black-owned, Family-owned, South LA coffee shop, market & cultural center. They are committed to building community through workshops, art, music, activism, and food drives. Description: A full-service brand based in Los Angeles, CA – Barista Life LA offers training and educational work to individuals and companies. Founded by LaNissa Williams, Barista Life LA also spotlights Black Excellence in the coffee industry under the hashtag, #blackinbrew.
